Everybody else is doing it, so why can’t we? It’s only fair that we recap things with an annual wrap, too.
From national holidays to local elections to moon phases, we’ve had all kinds of reasons for forced abstinence. To round the year up, here’s a tab of numbers that contributed to our involuntary sobriety.
Dry Day Rounds 707
Including total/partial dry days, and weekly/monthly offs. Counted individually, or it wouldn’t be this high.
Days of Dryness 169
That’s almost half the year that’s seen a dry day somewhere, in some form. Yes, it’s a lot to keep track of.
Driest State: Gujarat 74
Unsurprising, with them being famous for being a dry state. Followed by Kerala with 46 and Assam with 41.
Wettest State: Goa 5
And if it weren’t for the elections, there’d have been just one. Left out states where info is unreliable.
Longest Dry Stretch 16
A long period in September and October, scattered across India. It was caused by various elections, mostly.
Longest Wet Stretch 6
That’s the longest we’ll ever see, on account of Gujarat’s weekly dry days on top of their ususal dry ways.
Nationwide Dry Days 2
Gandhi Jayanti and vote counting day were the only two times that the whole country stayed sober together.
Countries Served 8
We now track all South Asian countries, reasonably well. The stats on this page are just about India, though.
Fixers 95
That’s how many of you contributed to correcting errors on the site. Thank you. You know who you are.
Regulars 600k+
Over half a million of you drunks found your way here.
Cheers!
And as a parting shot, an appropriate cliché:
Closing time, every new beginning
Comes from some other beginning’s end
Another Round
Afghanistan, Maldives, Nepal, and Pakistan
